Entre la arena, el silencio y el metal oxidado del desierto, el artista y compositor Guillermo Galindo encontró una forma única de hacer que las voces migrantes no se pierdan: transformó los objetos abandonados en la frontera entre México y Estados Unidos en instrumentos musicales.

Galindo no busca hablar por los migrantes, sino crear un espacio donde su ausencia resuene, donde los objetos —una botella rota, una prenda olvidada, un cartucho de bala— cuenten la historia del viaje, del miedo, del deseo de cruzar. Su obra “Border Cantos”, realizada en colaboración con el fotógrafo estadounidense Richard Misrach, es un homenaje sensorial al tránsito humano forzado.

Cuando el arte se encuentra con los vestigios de la esperanza

Border Cantos comenzó cuando Misrach, reconocido por sus fotografías de gran formato en paisajes desolados, compartió con Galindo imágenes de la frontera acompañadas de objetos encontrados durante sus recorridos. Galindo los tomó y les dio nueva vida: los convirtió en instrumentos sonoros experimentales. Cada pieza emite un sonido único, crudo, disonante, profundamente humano.

“Lo que más me interesa es dar voz a los objetos que la gente ha dejado atrás”, ha dicho Galindo.

Su trabajo se aleja del discurso tradicional sobre la migración: no victimiza, no editorializa. Su arte escucha.

Las instalaciones de Galindo no se limitan a exhibiciones estáticas. En muchas ocasiones, los instrumentos son activados en conciertos donde el artista interpreta composiciones que evocan el tránsito, el duelo, la resistencia. La frontera se convierte en partitura; el desierto, en escenario.

Estos conciertos han sido presentados en instituciones de prestigio como el San Jose Museum of Art, el Utah Museum of Fine Arts y el Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art.

Una obra que respira contexto

El trabajo de Galindo no puede entenderse sin el contexto político y humano de la migración contemporánea. El proyecto surgió durante un periodo de fuertes tensiones en la política fronteriza de Estados Unidos, cuando la construcción del muro y el discurso antiinmigrante ocupaban titulares.

Guillermo Galindo turns border remnants into instruments of living memory

Amid the sand, silence, and rusted metal of the desert, artist and composer Guillermo Galindo discovered a unique way to ensure that migrant voices are not lost: he transformed the abandoned objects found along the U.S.-Mexico border into musical instruments.

Galindo doesn’t aim to speak for migrants, but rather to create a space where their absence resonates—where objects like a shattered bottle, a forgotten garment, a spent bullet casing tell the story of a journey marked by fear, hope, and the desire to cross. His piece “Border Cantos,” created in collaboration with American photographer Richard Misrach, is a sensory tribute to human displacement.

When art encounters the remnants of hope

Border Cantos began when Misrach—known for his large-format photographs of desolate landscapes—shared with Galindo a series of images and found objects collected during his trips to the border. Galindo took those remnants and gave them new life, crafting them into experimental sound instruments. Each one emits a raw, dissonant, deeply human sound.

“What interests me most is giving voice to the objects that people have left behind,” Galindo has said.

His work steps away from traditional narratives about migration. It doesn’t victimize, nor does it editorialize. His art listens.

Hay algo incómodo en intentar definir al artista.
Porque en cuanto parece que lo entiendes… cambia.

No es una profesión en el sentido tradicional.
No es un rasgo de personalidad aislado.
Ni siquiera es una decisión completamente racional.

Ser artista es más cercano a un estado mental persistente.
Una forma de estar en el mundo donde todo —absolutamente todo— puede convertirse en materia prima.

Este no es un intento por encasillar, sino por mapear.
Un perfil no como etiqueta, sino como territorio.

I. El sistema nervioso del artista

El artista no “ve más bonito”.
Ve más.

Percibe capas: lo evidente, lo simbólico, lo emocional, lo que no se dice.
Funciona como un sistema sensorial expandido, donde la realidad entra sin demasiados filtros.

Esto tiene un costo.

• Mayor propensión a la sobrecarga emocional

• Dificultad para desconectarse

• Tendencia a interpretar incluso lo irrelevante

Pero también es su mayor activo:
la capacidad de traducir lo invisible en algo tangible.

El artista no inventa mundos.
Los detecta antes que otros.

II. Obsesión: la fuerza que reemplaza a la motivación

Si hay un rasgo transversal en el perfil del artista, no es el talento.

Es la obsesión.

Una idea que regresa.
Una imagen que insiste.
Una canción que no termina de acomodarse.

El artista no trabaja solo cuando “quiere”.
Trabaja cuando algo lo posee.

Aquí es donde se rompe el mito de la inspiración romántica:
crear no siempre se siente bien. Muchas veces se siente como una urgencia.

Y esa urgencia es lo que separa el interés del compromiso real.

III. Intuición vs. sistema: el punto de quiebre

Todo artista comienza desde la intuición.

Pero pocos logran sostenerse ahí.

En algún punto aparece la fricción con la realidad:

• dinero

• tiempo

• visibilidad

• consistencia

Y entonces surge una segunda capa del perfil artístico:
la necesidad de construir sistema.

Hábitos. Ritmos. Estrategias. Plataformas.

Aquí ocurre una bifurcación silenciosa:

• El artista que se queda en la intuición y se diluye

• El artista que integra estructura sin perder sensibilidad

El verdadero crecimiento creativo no está en elegir uno u otro.
Está en aprender a operar con ambos.

IV. La validación: entre el ego y la supervivencia

El artista crea desde lo íntimo… pero publica en lo público.

Esa contradicción define gran parte de su psicología.

Hay una narrativa peligrosa que dice:
“el verdadero artista no necesita validación”.

Es falsa.

Todo artista necesita ser visto.
No solo por ego, sino porque su obra está diseñada para ser recibida.

El problema no es la validación.
Es cuando se convierte en el único combustible.

Ahí es donde la obra deja de ser exploración
y se convierte en reacción.

V. Inestabilidad como entorno natural

A diferencia de otros perfiles profesionales, el artista no opera en sistemas estables.

Opera en incertidumbre constante:

• ingresos variables

• oportunidades impredecibles

• reconocimiento intermitente

Esto genera dos tipos de artistas:

1. El que se paraliza ante la inestabilidad

2. El que la convierte en parte de su lenguaje

La resiliencia no es opcional.
Es estructural.

VI. Identidad fragmentada: el artista contemporáneo

Hoy, el perfil del artista ya no es unidimensional.

No basta con crear.

También hay que:

• comunicar

• distribuir

• posicionar

• monetizar

El artista contemporáneo es, al mismo tiempo:

• autor

• editor

• estratega

• marca

Y aquí aparece una de las tensiones más interesantes:
¿hasta qué punto profesionalizarse sin perder autenticidad?

No hay respuesta única.
Pero sí una certeza: ignorar esta dimensión ya no es viable.

VII. El artista como traductor de realidad

Más allá de todas las capas, hay una constante:

El artista traduce.

Convierte experiencias en lenguaje.
Emociones en forma.
Caos en estructura.

No crea desde la nada.
Reorganiza lo que ya existe… de una forma que otros no habían visto.

Y en ese proceso, genera algo que no solo lo representa a él,
sino que permite a otros entenderse.

Conclusión: la necesidad como origen

El rasgo más honesto del perfil del artista no es el talento.

Es la imposibilidad de no hacerlo.

Crear no siempre es elección.
Muchas veces es consecuencia.

De cómo se percibe el mundo.
De cómo se procesa la realidad.
De cómo se sobrevive internamente.

El artista no siempre busca destacar.
Busca resolver algo que no termina de acomodarse dentro.

Y en ese intento, a veces caótico, a veces brillante,
termina construyendo obras que otros necesitan…
aunque nunca lo hayan pedido.

There is something uncomfortable about trying to define the artist.
Because the moment you think you understand it… it changes.

It is not a profession in the traditional sense.
It is not a single personality trait.
It is not even a fully rational decision.

Being an artist is closer to a persistent mental state.
A way of existing in the world where everything—absolutely everything—can become raw material.

This is not an attempt to label, but to map.
A profile not as a category, but as a territory.

I. The Artist’s Nervous System

The artist does not “see more beautifully.”
They see more.

They perceive layers: the obvious, the symbolic, the emotional, the unspoken.
They operate as an expanded sensory system, where reality enters with very few filters.

This comes at a cost.

• A higher tendency toward emotional overload

• Difficulty disconnecting

• A constant urge to interpret—even the irrelevant

But it is also their greatest asset:
the ability to translate the invisible into something tangible.

The artist does not invent worlds.
They detect them before others do.

II. Obsession: The Force That Replaces Motivation

If there is a defining trait in the artist profile, it is not talent.

It is obsession.

An idea that keeps returning.
An image that insists.
A song that refuses to settle.

The artist does not work only when they “feel like it.”
They work when something takes hold of them.

This is where the myth of romantic inspiration collapses:
creating does not always feel good. Often, it feels urgent.

And that urgency is what separates casual interest
from real commitment.

III. Intuition vs. System: The Breaking Point

Every artist begins with intuition.

But very few can sustain themselves there.

At some point, friction with reality appears:

• money

• time

• visibility

• consistency

“the true artist doesn’t need validation.”

but allows others to understand themselves.

Closing: Necessity as Origin

The most honest trait of the artist profile is not talent.

It is the inability to not do it.

Creating is not always a choice.
Often, it is a consequence.

Of how the world is perceived.
Of how reality is processed.
Of how one survives internally.

The artist does not always seek to stand out.
They seek to resolve something that does not quite settle within them.

And in that attempt—sometimes chaotic, sometimes brilliant—
they end up building works that others need…
even if they never asked for them.

Fuera de la expectativa que puedas tener como fan o no, Depeche Mode: M se abre paso por su sonoridad y su atmósfera visual. El show en vivo de la banda siempre ha sido una experiencia sensorial —luces, pantallas, disposición milimétrica del equipo e instrumentos—, y en esta ocasión todo eso fue capturado con una precisión que roza lo cinematográfico.

Dirigido por el mexicano Fernando Frías (Ya no estoy aquí), el documental fue grabado durante las tres actuaciones con entradas agotadas en el Foro Sol de la Ciudad de México en 2023, donde la banda ofreció un recorrido emocional y visual que trascendió el formato de concierto.
Frías construye un relato paralelo al espectáculo conmemorativo de Memento Mori, último álbum de la agrupación, entrelazando fragmentos de literatura narrados por Daniel Giménez Cacho. Estos pasajes funcionan como una guía espiritual sobre lo que significa la muerte para México, generando un diálogo poderoso entre la intención del álbum y la cosmovisión mexicana de la muerte, logrando un equilibrio sensible y coherente.

La narrativa

Frías logra traducir visualmente lo que México siente ante la muerte: su origen, sus ritos, su transformación. Los pasajes narrados por Giménez Cacho otorgan profundidad, mientras la música de Depeche Mode actúa como hilo conductor entre el significante y el significado, entre figura y fondo.

Curiosamente, la banda no aparece en entrevistas ni testimonios. Su presencia se siente desde el escenario: la voz, la música y las letras bastan para sostener la narrativa. No hay discurso verbal, solo un lenguaje sonoro y visual que habla por sí mismo.

¿Es un film dedicado a Andrew Fletcher?

Memento Mori es un álbum oscuro, introspectivo, con letras que abordan la trascendencia. Aunque el disco se grabó antes del fallecimiento de Fletcher, el duelo inevitablemente se filtró en su atmósfera. El documental no es un homenaje explícito, pero el espíritu de Andy está presente —en el escenario, en la mirada del público, y en cada nota que vibra como despedida. Lo podrás observar en el film.

Un retrato elegante y vibrante de cómo el arte puede dialogar con la eternidad.

Invito a todos a verla en cines, donde se estrenó el 28 de octubre del año en curso. Una experiencia que, sin duda, merece ser vivida en pantalla grande.

Beyond whatever expectations you might have as a fan—or not—Depeche Mode: M stands out through its sound and visual atmosphere. The band’s live show has always been a sensory experience—lights, screens, meticulous placement of equipment and instruments—and this time, all of it was captured with near-cinematic precision.

Directed by Mexican filmmaker Fernando Frías (Ya no estoy aquí), the documentary was filmed during the three sold-out shows at Foro Sol in Mexico City in 2023, where the band delivered an emotional and visual journey that transcended the traditional concert format. Frías constructs a narrative parallel to the commemorative Memento Mori tour, Depeche Mode’s latest album, interweaving literary passages narrated by Daniel Giménez Cacho. These segments act as a spiritual guide to Mexico’s understanding of death, creating a powerful dialogue between the album’s intent and the Mexican worldview, achieving a sensitive and coherent balance.

The Narrative

Frías visually translates what Mexico feels about death: its origins, rituals, and transformations. Giménez Cacho’s narration adds depth, while Depeche Mode’s music acts as the thread connecting signifier and meaning, figure and background.

Interestingly, the band does not appear in interviews or testimonies. Their presence is felt entirely from the stage: voice, music, and lyrics are enough to carry the narrative. There is no verbal discourse—only a sonic and visual language that speaks for itself.

The Pink Elephant in the Room

Is this film dedicated to Andrew Fletcher?

Memento Mori is a dark, introspective album with lyrics exploring transcendence. While it was recorded before Fletcher’s passing, grief inevitably permeates its atmosphere. The documentary is not an explicit tribute, but Andy’s spirit is present—on stage, in the audience’s gaze, and in every note that resonates like a farewell. You will feel it throughout the film.

El pasado jueves 11 de septiembre decidí caminar por la Universidad del Sur de Florida. El campus siempre tiene ese aire de calma académica, pero hay un punto en especial donde todo se siente distinto: el edificio de artes. Ahí, entre tableros de convocatorias y pasillos amplios, uno se topa con un rincón que parece pensado para detener el tiempo: el USF Contemporary Art Museum.

La entrada es libre y el museo abre de lunes a viernes de 10:00 a.m. a 5:00 p.m., los jueves hasta las 8:00 p.m., y los sábados de 1:00 a 4:00 p.m. (domingos y festivos universitarios permanece cerrado).

Ese día, para mi sorpresa, una exposición con título en español me esperaba: La Grande Illusion.

Brian Maguire, su autor, no pinta por simple estética. Sus lienzos son testigos de lo que a veces no queremos mirar. Juárez, Alepo, Sudán del Sur, Brasil… lugares donde la violencia y la desigualdad se convierten en cicatrices colectivas, y donde él estuvo para vivir, escuchar y después traducir todo en pintura.

Catorce obras que pesan, que incomodan, que obligan a pensar. Migración, comercio de armas, violencia sexual, heridas abiertas del medio ambiente… temáticas que Maguire no endulza, sino que expone con crudeza y al mismo tiempo con humanidad. Él mismo dice que quisiera pintar flores, pero la realidad siempre le cruza el camino.

Lo interesante de La Grande Illusion no es solo la fuerza de las imágenes, sino el modo en que Maguire logra que una sola escena contenga toda una historia. Ese equilibrio entre lo específico y lo universal. Pintura como memoria, como denuncia, pero también como un acto de amor hacia quienes no tienen voz.

Salí del museo con la certeza de que la pintura puede ser un archivo vivo: memoria, denuncia y también un acto de humanidad.

La Grande Illusion, when painting becomes memory

On Thursday, September 11, I found myself walking through the University of South Florida. The campus carries its usual academic calm, but there’s a particular corner where everything feels different: the arts building. There, surrounded by bulletin boards and long hallways, stands a place that seems designed to pause time — the USF Contemporary Art Museum.

Admission is free, and the museum is open Monday to Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Thursdays until 8:00 p.m., and Saturdays from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. (closed on Sundays and USF holidays).

That day, to my surprise, an exhibition with a Spanish title awaited me: La Grande Illusion.

Its author, Brian Maguire, doesn’t paint for the sake of aesthetics. His canvases are witnesses of realities we often avoid confronting. Juárez, Aleppo, South Sudan, Brazil… places where violence and inequality carve collective scars — and where Maguire chose to be present, to listen, and then to translate everything into paint.

Fourteen works that weigh heavy, that disturb, that demand attention. Migration, arms trade, sexual violence, environmental wounds… themes that Maguire doesn’t soften but rather exposes with both rawness and humanity. He often says he would love to paint flowers, but reality always gets in the way.

What stands out in La Grande Illusion is not only the weight of its images, but the way Maguire manages to condense entire stories into a single scene. The balance between the specific and the universal. Painting as memory, as denunciation — and at the same time, as an act of love toward those whose voices are often silenced.

I left the museum with the certainty that painting can be more than expression: it can be a living archive of what we are and what we tend to look away from.

La primera vez que escuché el groove en una canción, inmediatamente empecé a marcar el ritmo con el pie y la cabeza. Sentía cómo el sonido me movía directo por dentro. Fue en 2014, con el clásico de Al Green, “Let’s Stay Together”. (Te la dejo aquí abajo).

Como todo melómano, seguí la línea del género y me encontré con otros grandes: Teddy Pendergrass, Commodores, George Benson, por mencionar algunos. Ese sonido me hacía —y me sigue haciendo— viajar. Imaginar cómo eran los tiempos en los que estos gigantes componían y grababan, el proceso, los instrumentos, y sobre todo, cómo lograron posicionar esos sencillos sin la ayuda de algoritmos como los de hoy.

La primera vez que escuché la canción identifiqué el groove de inmediato: ese reggae con esencia setentera, el ritmo y, me atrevo a decir, hasta los mismos instrumentos de la época, acompañado de una letra que invita al canto y al disfrute.

Dale una escucha. Créeme: esto es pan caliente recién salido del horno. Una canción que seguramente pronto aparecerá en tu algoritmo de TikTok. ¿Un clásico de esta era? Eso lo sabremos en unos años. Por lo pronto, ya tienes una joyita más para sumar a tu playlist y disfrutar.

The first time I ever felt the groove in a song, I immediately started tapping my foot and nodding my head. The rhythm moved me straight away. That was back in 2014, with Al Green’s timeless “Let’s Stay Together.” (I’ll leave it below for you).

Like every music lover, I followed the trail of the genre and discovered other greats: Teddy Pendergrass, Commodores, George Benson, just to name a few. That sound made me —and still makes me— travel. -Materiales básicos: papel o tela, citrato férrico amoniacal + ferricianuro potásico, pincel, objetos o negativos, luz solar.

-Proceso: aplicar la solución sobre la superficie, dejar secar, colocar objetos/negativos, exponer a la luz solar, enjuagar con agua hasta que aparezca el azul (es.wikipedia.org).

Desde su aparición en 2016, el dúo ruso compuesto por Kristina Karpysheva y Alexander Letcius ha transformado las posibilidades del arte generativo contemporáneo. Bajo el nombre de 404.zero, han construido un lenguaje visual-sonoro que no busca contar una historia ni representar un mensaje directo, sino provocar una experiencia donde el espectador se disuelve dentro del algoritmo.

Una colaboración nacida del rechazo a las formas convencionales

Ambos artistas provienen de campos distintos. Karpysheva desde el diseño gráfico y el teatro visual, Letcius desde la arquitectura y la visualización tridimensional. El punto en común fue una búsqueda por deshacerse de lo humano en la producción estética. Lo que surgió fue una obra que evita el uso de loops, secuencias repetidas o herramientas estandarizadas. Todo lo que producen está programado desde cero, y cada instalación es única.

Sus composiciones han sido publicadas en formato álbum, como en 404.0, lanzado bajo el sello islandés Bedroom Community. Su música no está pensada para escucharse de forma convencional: es una extensión del sistema, una banda sonora del código.

Un gesto contra la saturación y el ruido simbólico

Since their emergence in 2016, the Russian duo formed by Kristina Karpysheva and Alexander Letcius has transformed the possibilities of contemporary generative art. Under the name 404.zero, they have developed a visual-sonic language that does not seek to tell a story or convey a direct message. Instead, they construct experiences in which the spectator dissolves into the algorithm.

A collaboration born from the refusal of conventional forms

Coming from distinct fields—Karpysheva from graphic design and visual theater, Letcius from architecture and 3D visualization—their common ground was a desire to remove the human from the center of the aesthetic process. What emerged was a practice that avoids loops, repeated sequences, and standardized tools. Everything they create is programmed from scratch, making each installation unrepeatable.

Technical precision as a form of philosophy

404.zero’s work is grounded in the use of platforms such as TouchDesigner, Pure Data, and custom modular synthesis systems. Their output combines geometric visual structures, pulsing light oscillations, immersive environments, and low-frequency sound design. Each piece functions as a self-contained ecosystem operating in real time—without pre-recorded material or automated playback. Their aesthetic could be understood as a form of digital meditation, where error, repetition, and silence are central elements.

A persistent presence in the international techno-art circuit

404.zero has exhibited at major international festivals and venues including MUTEK (in Montreal, Mexico City, and Japan), CTM Festival in Berlin, Ars Electronica in Austria, Dark Mofo in Australia, LACMA in Los Angeles, and the iconic Berghain in Berlin, where they transformed the dance floor into a long-form audiovisual temple, suspending the club’s usual logic.

Hay películas que definen una época sin proponérselo. Trainspotting (Danny Boyle, 1996) es una de ellas. No se conformó con retratar la decadencia: la volvió rítmica, sudorosa, llena de beats y contradicciones. Ambientada en una Edimburgo de ladrillos húmedos y juventud quebrada, la cinta sigue a un grupo de amigos hundidos en la heroína, pero también en la desesperación de una década que —al menos para ellos— no prometía futuro.

La narrativa, cargada de ironía, se desenvuelve a través de Mark Renton (Ewan McGregor), un antihéroe que escapa del sistema y de sí mismo. Su voz en off es más que un recurso: es un manifiesto generacional. “Elige la vida”, dice, con la desgana de quien ha visto pasar de largo la esperanza.

Y es ahí donde la música hace su entrada.

No como fondo. Como latido.

Un soundtrack que captura la pulsión de los 90

Some films end up defining an era without ever intending to. Trainspotting (Danny Boyle, 1996) is one of them. It didn’t settle for portraying decay—it turned it into something rhythmic, sweaty, pulsing with beats and contradictions. Set in an Edinburgh of damp bricks and fractured youth, the film follows a group of friends submerged in heroin, but also in the quiet desperation of a decade that—at least for them—promised no future.

The narrative, laced with irony, unfolds through Mark Renton (Ewan McGregor), an antihero trying to escape both the system and himself. His voice-over is more than a storytelling device; it’s a generational manifesto. “Choose life,” he says, with the weary detachment of someone who has already watched hope pass him by.

And that’s where the music enters.

A soundtrack that captured the pulse of the 90s

The musical selection of Trainspotting works like an emotional archive of the decade. Iggy Pop, Lou Reed, Underworld. Each track lands like a hit. A loop. A cold sweat.

In that pre-digital United Kingdom, electronic music wasn’t just a trend—it was resistance. It was the new drug. It was community, sweat, ecstasy, and an unspoken politics.

Trainspotting as a mirror

This isn’t simply a film about addiction. It’s a visual essay about a time sick with itself. The free fall of a generation left without promises. Yet it never says it solemnly—it says it while dancing.

And that’s why the film still feels alive today. Because it speaks from that exact point where the body grows tired but the mind keeps racing. Where music doesn’t decorate—it pushes.

Like in life. Like in art.

Not as background.

As a heartbeat.

Corría el año 2018. Trabajaba en una universidad ubicada justo al lado del Teatro de la Paz, en San Luis Potosí. Era temprano —6:30 a.m.— cuando llegué y noté una lona colgada sobre un costado de la fachada del teatro. Decía: Festival Cine en Corto 18-55. (Anótenlo, este festival será clave más adelante).

Lo que no sabía es que ese mismo día, por la tarde, conocería a Miguel Ángel Díaz y su trabajo.

De todos los lenguajes creativos que existen, el cine es, para mí, uno de los más complejos. Me ha tocado estar frente y detrás de cámaras, y puedo decirlo con claridad: hacer cine es una labor monumental. Ser director, actor, staff, extra, conductor, castinera, encargado del catering… cada rol requiere precisión, entrega y, sobre todo, organización.

Tal vez por eso mismo, me volví fan del trabajo de Miguel Ángel Díaz. Fue en ese festival donde conocí su película Pinches Actores. Por pura suerte, estuve en la sala donde se proyectaría, y más afortunado aún: él mismo la presentaría. Al terminar, abrió un espacio de preguntas y respuestas.

La vi completa, con atención, y me pareció brillante en muchos aspectos. Sin saberlo, él nos estaba dando su carta de presentación. Y lo hizo con maestría.

Pinches Actores —sin revelar demasiado— es una oda al artista. A ese creativo que, con todo en contra, insiste en convertir su sueño en realidad. La narrativa, la dirección y, claro, la entrega desde la comedia, la convierten en una película que todo creativo debería ver alguna vez en la vida.

Este texto no es una reseña. Es un recordatorio. Una puerta. Una entrada breve al trabajo de un director que ha sabido mantenerse fiel a su visión.

Una noche en el conversatorio

Una noche de conversatorio interesante y, sobre todo, gratificante. Encontrarse con alguien que no solo realiza trabajos profesionales, sino que también comparte el “cómo se hizo”, las anécdotas detrás del proceso creativo, los errores, los aciertos… para mí, eso fue lo más enriquecedor de la charla.

Conforme avanzaba el conversatorio, tuvimos oportunidad de ver parte del trabajo del director en Mexicanal, y más adelante, uno de sus cortometrajes: “Odio a Paulo Coelho”. Como dato especial: uno de los protagonistas del corto estaba ahí, presente entre el público.

Al finalizar, los aplausos llenaron la sala. Nos acercamos a saludar al director, agradecerle su tiempo y despedirnos.

Una noche que no solo inspira, también conecta.

How I Met Director Miguel Ángel Díaz?

It was 2018. I was working at a university located right next to the Teatro de la Paz in San Luis Potosí, Mexico. It was early—around 6:30 a.m.—when I arrived and noticed a large banner hanging from the side of the theater. It read: Festival Cine en Corto 18-55. (Keep that festival in mind—it becomes important later.)

What I didn’t know was that just a few hours later, I would be meeting Miguel Ángel Díaz and discovering his work.

Among all creative languages, film is, to me, one of the most complex. I’ve had the chance to be both in front of and behind the camera, and I can say this with certainty: making a film is no small feat. Whether you’re the director, an actor, part of the crew, an extra, the host, the casting assistant, or even the one making coffee—every role demands precision, commitment, and serious organization.

That might be why I instantly became a fan of Miguel Ángel Díaz’s work. It was at that festival where I first saw his film Pinches Actores. By pure chance, I ended up in the screening room, and even luckier: he was there to present the film himself and answer questions afterward.

I watched it all, fully present. And it struck me in many ways. Without knowing it, Miguel was giving us his creative calling card. And he did it with confidence and craft.

Pinches Actores—without spoiling anything—is an ode to the artist. To those creatives who, despite everything, chase their dreams and fight to make a living from what they love. The storytelling, direction, and of course, the use of comedy, make it a film that any creative soul should watch at least once in their life.

This isn’t a review. It’s a reminder. A door. A brief introduction to a director who’s remained true to his vision.

A Night at the Conversation

It was an inspiring and rewarding evening. There’s something powerful about hearing a filmmaker not just present their finished work, but also share how it came together—the behind-the-scenes moments, the anecdotes, the challenges. That, for me, was the most enriching part of the talk.

As the evening progressed, we saw more of Miguel’s work, including pieces aired on Mexicanal, and closed the night with one of his short films: “I Hate Paulo Coelho”. As a special surprise, one of the film’s lead actors was present in the room.

The screening ended with a well-deserved round of applause. We approached the director to say thank you, congratulate him, and say goodbye.

It was a night that didn’t just inspire—it connected.

Miguel Ángel Díaz is a director with a solid path already behind him. And I’m sure he’ll keep walking strong—just like he always has: by transcending.
