Aesthetica Short Film Festival Opens International Call for Entries for 2026 Edition
The internationally acclaimed Aesthetica Short Film Festival (ASFF), organized by Aesthetica Short Film Festival, has officially opened its global call for entries for the 2026 edition, inviting filmmakers, visual artists, immersive creators and digital storytellers from around the world to submit their projects to one of the United Kingdom’s leading independent film festivals.
The regular submission deadline will remain open from December 1, 2025 through May 31, 2026, while the late deadline closes on June 7, 2026. Selected projects will be announced in September 2026 and will become part of the festival’s official program taking place from November 4–8, 2026 in York, England, followed by an extended digital edition running through November 30.
ASFF welcomes short films and audiovisual experiences across a wide range of categories that reflect the diversity of contemporary cinema. Accepted categories include animation, documentary, drama, experimental, fashion film, music video, thriller, comedy, dance film and artists’ film. The festival also continues to expand its immersive programming through VR experiences and 360° storytelling, positioning itself as an important platform for emerging digital narratives and hybrid audiovisual formats.
One of the festival’s strongest appeals lies in its international reach and its reputation for supporting emerging talent within the film industry. Previous ASFF participants have gone on to receive recognition at major institutions and festivals including BAFTA, Sundance, SXSW and the Academy Awards. In addition to awards and industry exposure, the festival provides networking opportunities with producers, distributors, curators and creative professionals from across the global film landscape.
Festival organizers confirmed that all submitted films must have a maximum runtime of 30 minutes. Projects produced in languages other than English are required to include English subtitles. All entries must be submitted through FilmFreeway, one of the industry’s leading festival submission platforms.
Beyond its official screenings and competitions, ASFF is widely recognized for its professional development program, which includes masterclasses, industry talks, workshops and collaborative spaces designed for filmmakers, musicians, digital artists and immersive media creators.
By blending independent cinema, artistic experimentation and technological innovation, the Aesthetica Short Film Festival continues to establish itself as one of the most relevant platforms for discovering the future voices of contemporary filmmaking.
